Interview with Managing Director Christian Muhr on his company's success

Muhr is well-known for successful partnerships. What is the secret?

Our major advantage is that we have no need to pretend. We have been in partnerships since 1946. For us, this kind of thinking starts internally. We treat all our employees, irrespective of their role in the business, with respect and appreciation. We treat our customers in exactly the same way: openly and with a high level of integrity and trust. This is how we have established and are expanded our business, and continue to do so  – with a healthy equity ratio for sustainable growth and reliable services.

Lots of Muhr customers have worked with you over many years. Why is that?

We foster an honest symbiosis with our customers. This means that we are developing together for our mutual benefit. For our regular customer base, we travel almost anywhere – although Germany, Poland, Spain, the Benelux countries, Italy and the Czech Republic are our core areas. Another point in our favour is our quick decision-making on new projects: short decision-making channels and long-standing experienced employees enable us to respond quickly and above all with utmost authority. Add a top fleet in which we invest one million euros annually that provides the necessary power to realise customer projects reliably.

What are the challenges for the haulage sector?

We live in a fast-moving and dynamic age. Increasing internationalisation means dealing not only with many different cultures and mentalities but also with various framework conditions. For example, emissions standards, permissible payloads, etc. This means it is particularly important to link-up existing potential and know-how. Our approach is based on an enthusiasm for new challenges and finding solutions. Our customer support extends from choosing the right means of transport right through to booking in the unloading date at the destination, because holistic management is becoming increasingly important.

How do you, personally, tackle the demands of a typical day at work?

As the Managing Director, my business is my life. Being responsible for my employees and our customers also requires me to be fit. To this end, I enjoy walking my dog, hiking and fitness training in my spare time. This gives me all the energy I need for the job.
